Stocking a family first-aid drawer
A well-stocked first-aid drawer reduces panic when someone scrapes a knee or needs a cold compress. Store supplies in a labeled bin that adults can reach quickly and children cannot easily tip.
Useful basics include assorted bandages, gauze, medical tape, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, a digital thermometer, disposable gloves, and an instant cold pack. Add any clinician-recommended items for your household, and check expiration dates twice a year.
Know the difference between home care and emergencies. Difficulty breathing, uncontrolled bleeding, chest pain, signs of stroke, or a concerning head injury means call 911 or go to emergency care immediately.
